The twisted tip of the bamboo whisk is coming apart, is this normal?

The KISSA Tea bamboo whisks are made from 80 fine baby bamboo bristles. The twisted tip of the bamboo whisk is purely decorative. When used, the baby bamboo bristles unfold and ensure that you get a fine, creamy foam when preparing Matcha. The bamboo whisk only develops its full functionality when the bristles are open.

Does KISSA Matcha contain mineral oil components such as MOSH / MOAH?

Kissa Tea stands for high-quality green tea products. To express this claim, KISSA only works with suppliers and manufacturers who comply with food safety standards and are certified accordingly.

It is our aim and our understanding that our products are free from any non-natural substances. For this reason, KISSA ensures that none of our products contain pesticides, constantly monitors microbiological values and even has samples analyzed for heavy metals.

Mineral oils, which include MOSH ( saturated mineral oil hydrocarbons ) and MOAH (aromatic mineral oil hydrocarbons) often mentioned in the media, can now be found in many places in everyday life. They are used for fuels, cosmetics or printing inks, for example. As a result, these substances are widespread in the environment. There are currently no studies on the direct effects of these substances on the human organism .

There are currently no legal limits set for mineral oil residues in tea products.

In response to the current findings, KISSA, together with our quality management in Japan and together with our suppliers, is comprehensively checking all stages of production and processing to avoid unintentional entry.

Do KISSA products have a Fairtrade seal?

Since our green tea is grown in Japan, our products do not have a Fairtrade seal. KISSA Managing Director Thomas M. Grömer is friends with the KISSA organic tea farmers in Japan and knows all of the KISSA organic tea farmers personally. Managing Director Thomas M. Grömer travels to Japan at least once a year to check on the tea and the people behind it.

Is KISSA Rainforest Alliance Certified ?

KISSA has recently been certified by the Raiforest Alliance and we are pleased to be able to use the seal!

Founded in 1987, the Raiforest Alliance is an international non-profit environmental organization.

The Rainforest Alliance certification consists of three parts: environmental protection, social justice and economic efficiency. The organization helps growers to make progress in all three areas. Since its beginnings in Costa Rica in 1992, the certification system has been expanded to 43 countries where the well-being of millions of farmers and farm workers and countless animal and plant species is at stake. Over two million farmers, farm workers and their family members benefit directly from the Rainforest Alliance certification. The certification helps to operate in a forward-looking and sustainable manner. The organization works together with growers and their traders on strategies and plans to protect nature and improve living conditions for people and nature.

The Rainforest Alliance certification is carried out according to the standards of independent organizations (such as the SAN network for sustainable agriculture) and the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council). Written and practical audits are part of the certification process. The certification ensures that the certified raw materials are traceable and that jointly developed sustainability programs are adhered to.

The certification and use of the Rainforest Alliance seal therefore indicates that the certified product is in line with the preservation of biodiversity in the growing area and that the living conditions of the producers are sustainable. At the same time, the work of the Rainforest Alliance ensures that measures always remain economical in order to achieve a greater sustainability effect.

MATCHA PREPARATION

How do I dose Matcha correctly?

Matcha is the espresso of teas. That's why you usually don't drink a full cup or bowl at once. Ideally, you take 2 bamboo spoons or ½ teaspoon of Matcha and pour it into about 150 ml of 80°C hot water.

Do I need a bamboo whisk to prepare Matcha.

Using a Matcha whisk is not a necessary requirement for preparing Matcha, but KISSA definitely recommends it. Only those who feel soft, creamy foam on their lips can fully enjoy Matcha. As an alternative to a bamboo whisk, you can of course also use an electric milk frother. However, a perfect Matcha crema can only be achieved with a bamboo whisk.

Why should I sift the Matcha before preparing it?

Since Matcha is a very fine powder, it can easily happen that lumps form during preparation. Therefore, KISSA recommends sieving Matcha before preparation so that the fine tea particles separate from each other and nothing stands in the way of your creamy Matcha enjoyment. You can find out how to prepare your Matcha correctly here.

How does it make a difference to the absorption of the ingredients if I drink my Matcha hot or cold?

Unlike a conventional leaf tea, the temperature of the water or milk makes no difference when consuming Matcha. With Matcha, you consume 100% of the ingredients of green tea because you stir the ground leaf in its entirety, whether in hot or cold water, your smoothie or your favorite latte.

With leaf tea, the heat of the water is needed to extract the ingredients from the tea leaf. This way you can enjoy around 10% of the ingredients.

INGREDIENTS AND EFFECTS

Why do the ingredients of your Matcha teas differ?

The reason for this lies in the production of the Matcha. All of our Matcha varieties are made from fine Tencha leaves and ground into the finest Matcha using stone mills in Japan. Depending on the growing region, location and altitude, the fine Japanese Tencha green tea grows into different classes with different ingredients. For example, a particularly long period of overshading in Matcha Focus leads to a high content of the amino acid L-theanine. Here you can find out everything about the differentiation of Matcha qualities.

Why does Matcha work differently than coffee?

Matcha, like coffee, contains natural caffeine. However, caffeine from coffee is bound to a chlorogenic acid-potassium complex, which immediately releases caffeine after roasting and contact with stomach acid and thus has a quick effect. Caffeine from tea, on the other hand, is bound to polyphenols, whereby the alkaloid is only released in the intestine. The effect then occurs later and lasts longer. This is confirmed by the scientists at Ecopro Research Co. Ltd. // By Standard Table of Food Composition in Japan Fifth Revised Edition, 2000 // Recourses Council, Science and Technology Agency, Japan

How much Matcha can I drink in a day?

Similar to the effect of coffee, the effect of Matcha always depends on you personally. For Matcha beginners, KISSA recommends one to two cups of Matcha per day (prepared with ½ teaspoon of matcha). Matcha can usually be enjoyed without any problems during pregnancy. Please consult your doctor to make sure that this is also safe for you personally from a medical point of view.
