Bloody Mary Matcha Tonic – Halloween Style
Spooky Season in a Glass
Halloween drinks are allowed to look a little creepy. In our Bloody Mary Matcha Tonic, deep red pomegranate syrup runs down the glass like blood, the rim is coated in dark Oreo crumbs and a vibrant green Matcha layer floats on top. Serve it as a Halloween mocktail or add a splash of vodka.
Why You'll Love This Halloween Mocktail
The look steals the show: deep red, black and green create a contrast that stands out at any Halloween party. Fruity-sweet pomegranate meets the bitter fizz of tonic water and the finely bitter note of Matcha. Shaking the Matcha creates a fine foam that sits on the drink like a little cloud. Pomegranate seeds as "blood drops" and a rosemary sprig instead of a celery stick nod to the classic Bloody Mary – just in green.
Tips for Perfect Bloody Drips
You can make the pomegranate syrup the day before. It needs to be completely cool and nicely thick so the drips cling to the glass. Use a spoon to let it run down the inside of the glass from top to bottom. The Matcha should also be fully cooled, otherwise the ice melts too quickly and the layers blur. Finally, pour the shaken Matcha slowly over the back of a spoon onto the ice.
Ingredients
For the pomegranate "blood" (can be made the day before)
- 200 ml pomegranate juice
- 3 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- 1 tsp cornstarch, mixed with 1 tbsp water
For the rim
- 3–4 Oreo cookies, finely crushed
- 1 tbsp pomegranate "blood" for moistening
For 2 drinks
- 2 tsp KISSA Matcha Basic (approx. 4 g)
- 80 ml hot water (approx. 80 °C)
- 3 tbsp pomegranate "blood"
- 80 ml pomegranate juice
- 40 ml tonic water
- Ice cubes
- 2 lime slices
- 2 rosemary sprigs
- 1 tbsp pomegranate seeds
- Optional: 4 cl vodka (2 cl per drink)
- Optional: 1 dash lime juice
Instructions
1. For the pomegranate "blood", bring the juice and sugar to the boil and reduce over medium heat to about 5 tbsp. Stir in the lemon juice and cornstarch mixture, bring briefly to the boil and let cool completely.
2. Whisk the Matcha with the hot water until smooth and let it cool completely.
3. Moisten the rims of the glasses with pomegranate "blood" and dip them into the Oreo crumbs.
4. Use a spoon to let pomegranate "blood" run down the inside of each glass to create the drips.
5. Pour 40 ml pomegranate juice into each glass, add 2 cl vodka per glass if You like and fill with ice. Top each with 20 ml tonic water.
6. Shake the Matcha (with a dash of lime juice, if You like) with ice for about 10 seconds.
7. Strain slowly over the back of a spoon onto the ice so the green layer stays on top.
8. Garnish with pomegranate seeds, a lime slice and a rosemary sprig.
