What is Matcha?
Matcha, also known as "green gold", is a tea with a long tradition and impressive health benefits. In this blog you will learn what Matcha is, the history behind it, where it comes from and why KISSA Matcha guarantees the highest organic quality.
What is Matcha and what makes real Matcha powder?
Matcha means "ground tea" and is made from the finest and most shaded Tencha tea leaves . What distinguishes Matcha from conventional green tea powders is the origin of the leaf and the special Matcha production . Other green tea powders that are made from tea residues or inferior leaves and not traditionally are not authentic Matcha. We call such green tea products "fake Matcha".
Thanks to the special shading technique and grinding in stone mills, Matcha contains a high concentration of chlorophyll, amino acids, antioxidants and vitamins. Particularly noteworthy is the high content of epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), a powerful antioxidant that has proven anti-inflammatory and cell-protective properties.
History of Matcha – From Buddhism to the World
The history of Matcha goes back over 800 years. On their travels to China, Buddhist monks discovered Matcha powder and brought it to Japan, where they began to cultivate the tea plants. Even then, Matcha was a valuable drink reserved mainly for the social elite. The monks especially valued it during their long meditation sessions , as the tea helped them stay awake and focused.
Today, Matcha is known and loved worldwide and is valued for its health benefits as well as its unique taste.
Matcha Origin – From East to West
Our KISSA Matcha is grown in Kagoshima Prefecture on the Japanese island of Kyushu , where Japan's best organic tea farmers have perfected the knowledge of Matcha production. Matcha cultivation and production follow strict ecological standards to ensure that only the best tencha leaves are used.
KISSA Matcha ORGANIC Quality – Only the best from the tea leaf
The word “KISSA” means “drinking tea” in Japanese, and this is exactly the tradition we live by at KISSA Tea.
Organic quality is particularly important to us. Since the entire tea leaf is consumed when making Matcha, it is crucial that the product does not contain any pesticides or harmful substances. All KISSA Matcha varieties are regularly tested for residues to ensure that they are completely pure and meet the highest quality standards.
The gentle processing in traditional granite stone mills preserves not only the taste, but also the emerald green color and the valuable ingredients of the leaves. This careful process makes KISSA Matcha a premium product that impresses with its purity and quality.
